I always look forward to the start of the year because January is my birth month. I just turned twenty three last week, and here’s a quick recap of how I spent it, events/announcements you don’t wanna miss out on this month, plus an update on my 100 Movies a Year project. :)
Birth Week Happenings
(I haven’t painted in such a long time! ;_;) Above is something I managed to squeeze in on my birthday, and is a constant reminder for me to keep enjoying the journey and moving forward. :)
So, I don’t just celebrate my birthday. 24 hours isn’t much, to be honest. I like maximizing the week; and maximize I did with a quick beach trip to Batangas.
Got to spend my pre-birthday with Christie at Laiya. It was beautiful! I used to hate beaches in my past life (lol) but I digress. Three days basking in this beautiful view, watching the sunset on top of a huge rock (climb levels), chill work sessions by the beach, late night movies and good food – oh, and unexpected tricycle + bus rides. It was gewd. :-)
That pink sky totes reminds me of Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. Am I right or am I right?
If it were this easy to escape Manila often, I’d do it. But I don’t think I can with all the projects I’m bound to work on this month, heh. Nevertheless, I promised myself to do more local sightseeing this year, so I definitely can’t wait for that.
Meanwhile, back in Manila…I started to change a few things. I began to eliminate pork in my diet. Not that you have to know, but I just decided to cut my meat intake. I’ve also vowed to run more (I love running) and quit having excuses. So far, I’m slowly becoming ~normal~ in terms of being human (this means, I don’t end up being a workaholic zombie hahaha).
I also met up with friends and some of my favorite people, of course! I think I spent half of my week at my favorite coffee shop (which is a few blocks away). This also explains why I tweet at 2AM sometimes, lol. Nevertheless, friends > work. S/O to my best friends whom I got to spend time with before my birthday: Den, Tin & Nix!
Also: (1) Coffee + conversations two Sundays ago with (achi) Koko at Craft. And I got new movies, yay! (So far I’ve watched Pride & Prejudice and You’ve Got Mail hnnggggg) I also received a box of Pantone postcards and they are so pretty ;_; Huuuuuu I want to cry. Thanks Koko!
(2) Finally got to celebrate me & Tippy‘s friend-iversary. I owe a lot of my growth as a person to her (being her officemate/pseudo sister/assistant last year definitely covers that aspect, haha) so I guess it was mandatory that we eat our favorite treats: chocolate cake, Loacker (haha) Quadratini crackers & Cocio milk (yumz). In all honesty though, we really had a meeting for upcoming projects and collab work. Stay tuned! The giveaway we had last Christmas is just the beginning. ;)
(3) Long overdue meeting / catch-up with Tricie & Tin. It’s been a productive year of work-ship/friendship! I’m so grateful to be surrounded by amazing people.
(4) Catch-up with the power baes AJ & Maine and mind-blowing conversations. Always love hearing insightful things from these two.
(5) Got to (finally) get some sisterly brunch time with Mikka Weeee. I missed her!
January 14 was okay. I went shopping, ate alone for lunch (haha, typical me), painted a bit and watched You’ve Got Mail (!!!). Then, I treated my family to dinner at my fave place, Lola.
Oh, and then I sort of freaked up because hi, crush (HAHA) and teared up at the same time because (1) gahd my friends sent me their long birthday greetings I was literally flooded with tears, and (2) Alan Rickman passed away. Harry Potter was a fundamental part of my life; so is Alan Rickman’s role in playing Professor Snape. He is irreplaceable.
In other news, Maine told me to “get a copy of Young Star” last Friday because she said “it’s about Advertising”. Yeah, right. I got a copy and I was shocked to see a full spread on Rookies of the Year with me in it. Thank you, Young STAR for this!
(I’m framing this baby up on my ~new office~ soon huhu)

NBS Color Pop Fair Demo
BTW, I’ll be part of this year’s Color Pop Fair hosted by National Bookstore. The event will be on January 23, Saturday, and it’s going to be a whole day full of FREE coloring activities, demos, signing and meet and greets!
I’ll be doing a live lettering & illustration demo using Faber Castell pitt pens from 3-3:30PM. Hope to see you! Say hello :D Entrance is free. Materials will be provided, too. You may have some of your stuff signed by me, too.
Apart from that, June Digan is having her book signing for A Year of Positivity, and The Googly Gooeys will be having a talk & workshop in lieu of their coloring book, Around the World with Googly Gooeys. There are also a lot of interesting activities you can participate in, plus a lot of your favorite art brands will have pop-up stores there. Time to splurge!
100 Movies a Year Update
I haven’t watched a lot this past week BUT I got to work on my personal art project involving film (above). In the works: Submarine.
Movies I’ve watched:Submarine. I finished this film with a weird question mark on my head BUT after a week, I am still not over it. Very true-to-life and a quintessential coming-of-age comedy drama, not to mention beautiful set design & overall branding, this is a must-watch for creatives.
Might I add that I kind of resonated with the protagonist and his thoughts and the fact that he writes a lot in his journal. It creeps me out that it’s very me.
*Also: I swear, I want Oliver Tate’s room*
Pride & Prejudice. Never consumed anything Jane Austen has written because…classics intimidate me. This was a lighter spin on the book and I super loved it because (1) Keira Knightley and (2) set design + warm colors! Except for the acceptable fact that the language is pretty…deep English (lol), I loved this period film. The hopeless romantic in me sort of revealed itself, hahaha.
You’ve Got Mail. Back when the internet was operated through dial-up, who knew things like this already transpired? Although this was way back in 1998…I enjoyed this film. Mega kilig love tandem between Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, too. Definitely a classic.
So much for my lengthy post; hope you all have a great week ahead. See you on Saturday! :)
PS: Movie / music / book recommendations welcome. Please and thank ya – leave a comment!
