Of Friends, Coffee & Typography

I’ll be honest, I missed writing about this part of my blog so much!!! Mainly because I don’t have to be all strict with how I write since it’s a narrative of things in my life lately.

Favorite thing I did a few weeks back, which basically sums up my feelings about art and my confidence.

Anyway, I have to say, the latter half of last week was particularly A+.

I watched A Film About Coffee last Thursday with Tricie – a one night only screening in Manila organized by Habitual Coffee and YKW Roasters (thanks Kaye for the tickets!). More than a good excuse to head to work early (and leave the office before 6), I enjoyed the night particularly because I haven’t seen Tricie in awhile and we both love coffee – so this film really got me excited.

Luckily, despite the conflict of schedules (I had meetings every night for freelance / ABC stuff I cry), I made sure I was available. Good thing because the film was interesting, insightful, and made me consider barista classes…next year. #dreams #comingsoon

The film showcased prominent people in the coffee industry and believe it or not, it was my first time knowing about the process of coffee from bean to cup. These people in the film were so into their love for coffee; it’s amazing. You really know they love what they’re doing.

Just to add to why Thursday was exceptionally fun – I was in a client meeting and I made friends with one of our colleagues (who apparently crafts and does art, too). Please excuse the fact that I am such an introvert in the office, lol.

Last Saturday was Love Type 2, and we had it at Hey Kessy studio (super love this place! best venue we’ve had so far). It was a lovely morning spent teaching a new batch of students the basics of hand lettering (this is my 11th and last time to teach this year, crazy!).

I almost always never practice the night before (well, Den & I do run-throughs at times) and I realize that my knowledge for my craft may have been instilled already in my heart (LOL deep) and I guess that’s what I love about teaching lettering. It helps me reconcile with the main reason why I started: to share it to others and to help them find their own creativity and personality.

The students’ final activity was to draw on their notebook covers, thanks to these handbound notebooks from Sketchnotes! Really love the mini size.

Please check out the real happenings at our workshops, lol.

Special thanks to everyone who dropped by and supported us: Mansy of Hey Kessy, Aj of Sunday Paper, Eilyn of Sketchnotes, Carla and Agnes of Love, Agnessi, Innah of The Happy Monster, Iona of Cafe Salamat / Cordillera Coffee, resident photographer Ber Garcia and forever supportive achi Tricie!

My friends from the south came to visit the north as well and we had late lunch at Scarsdale. Paula’s mandatory was the place had to be “Instagrammable” so I took them there, lol.

This is why we’re friends.

We had a “balanced diet” of salad, pasta, cronuts and coffee.

After which, they got to visit my “lair” and chilled for a bit before the highlight of their visit – H&M in Robinsons Magnolia!

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetPlease excuse my touristy photo but I’ve always been a fan of H&M so imagine my happiness when I found out H&M is just 5 minutes away from my place! I cry tears of happiness. Please see that napkin. I want it!

I just wanted to say that despite having a shopping spree at H&M, we all ended up devouring the fast food goodness that is Jollibee for dinner. No regrets!

Sunday came in pretty swell. I’m just really happy I’m trying to spend more mornings writing about my personal thoughts on life lately. It’s been long since I’ve gotten really serious with journaling and now that I have lesser time for myself, I figured I needed this therapeutic activity to get my thoughts together again and (hopefully) not lose sight of my own personal time.

That, and the overwhelming response of my website launch left me speechless. Agh, thank you, everyone!

I’d like to think weeks have been going good for me. I’d also like to believe projects are dying down (FINALLY after torturing myself for so long this year) so I can focus on this blog, fixing my portfolio and whipping up personal projects. Oh, and for TEDx next year (I’m a speaker, by the way. I am also still freaking out by the way).

How’s everyone doing so far this year? Less than a month until the holidays!

PS I am so loving the comments section – super appreciate it when people leave their messages! Much love. <3

PPS We are launching the Life in Transit e-book this weekend, do check back on a series of posts me and Tricie are doing about our backpacking adventure a few months ago. :)
