Wherein I declare my love for the 26 letters of the alphabet – if it isn’t obvious yet.
Also: I’m having demos, workshops, & live art sessions as my Valentine’s dates this weekend. Come join me? :) Click Read More to find out about these events and how you can be part of them.
If you’ve been reading my blog since my Tumblr days, you would know that I spent quite an adventure trying to discover what particular art form I wanted to work on and further pursue. At the time (around 3 years ago), I ventured into photography, writing (well, in essence, I still do both ’cause of blogging), painting, and eventually found lettering to be that one thing I can proudly call my forte.
Fast forward to last year and all the amazing things that have transpired – and I think that in itself has given me enough reason to say that I love letters more than anything else. I chose to pursue lettering without a clue what opportunities were up on my sleeve. You can say it’s an ongoing love-hate relationship: how words can be so fragile yet enlightening at the same time. I love writing, I love drawing, and weaving these two together has deemed to be a big challenge for me – but every day, I am patiently learning to love letters even more.
I was asked the other day about why I said 2015 was one of the best years (of my life) to date. And I said, “Because I realized I am an artist.” paired with a huge grin on my face as I said the word “artist”. Call me cheesy, but I don’t think I could have the guts to claim such word into my profile if it weren’t for lettering, or doing type as art, for that matter.
I look back at my lettering journey and while it’s still a far cry from the experts of those who’ve worked years and years, I believe that it was pretty worthwhile. And I’m glad you guys (well, most of you!) have been part of it in one way or another. Thank you for that!
Aaaaand that’s also probably why I’ve been date-less for Valentine’s (hue hue in a relationship with letters…joke). This year, though, things are going to be different – looks like I’m spending my Valentine’s weekend with you! :)
SATURDAY: NBS Love Calligraphy
As I mentioned on my previous post, hope you could drop by NBS Love Calligraphy happening this Saturday, February 13, at Glorietta 2 Activity Center. It’s going to be a day full of letter writing, poetry reading, art, and love, of course. Entrance is free and you can drop by anytime. I’ll be there almost the whole day so don’t hesitate to approach me and say hi (I don’t bite, promise).
First off, at 11AM, I’ll be doing a live mural piece using Faber Castell markers.
And on 1PM, catch me at the Summit Books booth for my book signing.
BTW, We’re on our 3rd reprinting for my book (AAAAAHHHHH) and I’m very overwhelmed. Thank you so much for the support!
Also: The first 50 participants who have their books / postcards signed will get free prints from me. *confetti*
Afterwards, I’ll be proceeding with my lettering demo at 3PM using Faber Castell’s Pitt Pens. Have I mentioned how awesome these pens are? I think I have.
While you’re at it, don’t forget to catch June Digan’s launch of her weekly planner, A Year of Positivity, also published by Summit Books.
She will be doing a demo from 3:30PM and signing will start at 4:30PM.
Her weekly planner, A Year of Positivity, is a reminder that new beginnings are always possible. :) May you be inspired by her beautiful paintings and daily reminders – stickers, tattoos and postcards are also included in the planner.
SUNDAY: A HeArty Valentine
Finally, join me on Sunday (for all you North peeps!) for a lettering workshop with TriNoma malls.
I’ll be providing a free kit and DIY materials for our activity. I’ll also be doing a demo at 12NN.
Hope to see you at these events and together, let’s fall in love with letters, yes?
(That was so cheesy but I had to. Omg. Lol.)
