2015’s been a whirlwind – and while it’s the last month of the year, I still feel hesitant to end this part of my life. More than anything, I can’t help but feel very blessed, grateful and lucky to work on a lot of dream projects, one of which includes being one of the chosen designers for Havaianas’ collection this 2015 called Filipinas.
I know I mentioned in my previous post that I couldn’t share about it *yet*, but since we’ve already had the launch last week, well, here it is! :)
It’s called Lakbay, which means travel in Filipino. I won’t go into the nitty gritty process of this project (mind you, it was crazy technical but fun), because I posted it already on my Behance portfolio. Click here to view the project.
Up until now, it still feels pretty surreal to see these illustrations on actual footwear. Ahh! I need someone to pinch me.
Speaking of, this was what my reaction was when I found out I was going to work with Havaianas. :)
BTW, this pair, as part of the Havaianas Filipinas 2015 collection, is now available at all Havaianas retailers nationwide for P1,195.
Don’t forget to get yourself a pair this Christmas and take it with you on your next adventure! :)
Anyway, Havaianas officially announced and released the collection last week at the media launch of Filipinas. It felt a bit similar to my book launch, with all the familiar pre-event panic and jitters. I think I spent a few days trying to articulate my anticipation of this day (my introvert ways tend to take over, really).
(Super thanks to Tippy for the photos during the launch!)
The event had mini booths and for my travel-themed design, there was a combi van + photo op area for guests.
There was also a super cool standee of the flip flop design, which I wanted to take home. Kidding!
Guests were encouraged to try out lettering with their art materials on the tables.
Me, Pat & Alessa before starting our demo. We’re all smiles in this photo, but deep inside, we were all very nervous. Hahahahaha.
I decided to paint a quote about taking on journeys. I guess it was pretty intimidating to paint with all the lights but, I just tried to focus properly with my work. Lols.
Apart from the event, I’m just glad I got to gather some of my favorite people to witness this endeavor with me. :)
Above: Say hi to my mom! She’s the original calligrapher in the family before I was born. :P
Above: with the Havaianas Philippines team, who were super hands on from day one. Special thanks to Iya for coordinating with us and making sure things are going smoothly!
I’m including the photo above that we took during one of our meetings at Hillside because at that time, the three of us were itching to show off our pairs. Hahaha. Congrats to us! :)
This coming weekend’s definitely going to be an eventful one. First off, there’s our workshop happening on Sunday (slots are full already). And then, I’m taking over Havaianas’ Instagram today (better check out their IG for updates). And tomorrow, we’re going on a mall tour!
Hope you can catch our Instameet happening tomorrow at 3-7PM. We’ll be going to (3) different malls to raffle off prizes + sign stuff. Oh, if you have a copy of my book, you may bring it as well. :)
I’ll be giving away a few stickers and notebooks to the first few people who purchase a pair. Drop by and say hi, and see you tomorrow!
