Let me trace it back to earlier this year.
In between juggling my (then) day job, I remember panicking on a presentation I had to fix for a pitch – yes, a pitch. For a freelance design client. Not just any client – it was Havaianas. WEW. Imagine my nerves when I had to collate ideas + come up with design studies for this project, haha!
If you follow me on Twitter and Snapchat (aka where most of my real, informal self is seen), you might have seen me taking snaps of invites, packaging, design…basically anything and everything about this project. Well, secret’s out – yup, I got to design for Havaianas‘ limited edition holiday collection this year called Filipinas. Yup, my design is on flip flops. And not just any flip flops…Havaianas. And to be honest, as I’m typing this, I can feel the goosebumps creeping up on my system still.
I’ve worked on many dream projects this year, and this is definitely one of them. It took us over a year of coordination, back and forth submission and all the other craziness that comes with working for a project as big as this to finally put everything together, but I definitely had a fun journey throughout the duration of this project.
My design is entitled Lakbay, featuring excerpts from my adventures and focusing on my love for travel. All of you know how much I value my time outside work, and I invest most of it exploring the unknown and getting out of Manila. The design I made is reminiscent of our favorite Filipino landmarks and expressions. Lakbay is part of a 3-pair collection: Laro is by Patrick Cabral and Lasap, by Alessa Lanot. :)
The collection will be out in stores this December (for the holidays only), and I hope you can check it out soon! Also looking forward to the launch next week, aka my last hurrah before I close all events this year. :)
We definitely can’t wait to show you guys the designs soon. Super duper thank you, Havaianas, for this opportunity!
Anyway, while production was ongoing over the last couple of months, I met up with fellow artists Alessa & Patrick to discuss our ideas and plan possible collaborations for the launch of Filipinas. I’m so honored and happy that I got to coordinate and collaborate – and most of all, be part of a collection with them. Their passion and dedication to art and design is contagious; and I get to learn and appreciate what I do more because of them.
Anyway, to cut things short, after endless meetings + planning sessions (over good food at Hillside!), we’re having a workshop this December in partnership with Havaianas! :)
