I used to look forward to attend LEAP classes during my first and second year in college because it was an alternative day to spend with friends and doing non school-related things. Funny how for my third and fourth year, I’m actually the one conducting classes already (and taking in the stress that comes with doing so)!
I remember being super shy and full of self-doubt when I did Blogging 101 last year and for some reason, this year was so much different. I had more confidence and capability to be open enough to teach what I know to my students. :)
Started my first class at 9, with DIY Case Design for AdCreate Society. We all got messy and created designs for iPhone cases – washi tapes, stickers, patterned papers galore! I also gave a bit of lecture on lettering and the geeky terminologies that came with it.
Doing a custom lettering on one of my student’s iPhone cases.
My next class was at 1PM and I conducted a Lettering 101 workshop for Blaze 2016. This was such great timing ‘cause I’m having Love, Type with my friends on Saturday and this was like a warm-up for me, lol.
Before getting down with the basics of lettering, I showed them an overview of the work I’ve done for various projects and some of the freelance work I do. I then gave a short lecture on lettering (old school style because blackboard > powerpoint!) before letting the students get creative with pen and paper.
Ultimate teacher vibes yesterday! I helped students curate their work and how to layout words properly. The geek in me was just revealed as I answered students’ queries on lettering, lol.
My students are super talented! I don’t think they still need lessons from me lol
Can I just say it still feels surreal when people ask me for a photo with them? Nevertheless, I’m super flattered and grateful to meet a lot of amazing people yesterday. I can’t wait to see what they’ll be doing with their talents and skills.
Thank you so much to the people who invited me to conduct these classes yesterday! I super missed school and it was a good excuse to skip work for LEAP – plus I got to see some of my favorite people as well. Win win!
And I am really really blessed to have the chance to share my experiences with aspiring creatives and letterers, despite endless moments of doubting myself. Sometimes I have to keep telling myself I’m capable in order to keep going, and I hope I do, because things are just going to get even better – which reminds me, I can’t wait for Saturday’s workshop! Hopefully this will be something I’ll constantly do for the rest of my life. :)
