(First of all, I googled Meaningfulness and it is apparently an adverb! Lol. Hence the title.)

I haven’t written anything personal in awhile, I believe. Sharing some updates on how my 2016’s been so far and a few announcements, as per usual. :)
I don’t know about you, but 2016’s been an on-and-off thing for me. Most days, I’m literally ecstatic with all the good things happening. On other days, I drown myself in my internal battles. I have to change that, obviously.
Anyway! Some things:
I’ve been very diligent with my ABC Film Project, in fairness. I have a friend who keeps track of my ~weekly submissions~ (I do one per week) and if I don’t submit on time, I have to treat her coffee (LOL). So, yup, gotta get drawing! On another note, I’ve been busy last January illustrating something for Rookie. I won’t jinx it yet; I’ll let you know once it’s real. Hehe. I’m such a huge fan of Tavi and Rookie, this was totally an unexpected thing tbh. Exciting times! :)
Speaking of fangirling – I met Timothy Goodman during Graphika Manila. I have been looking up to him and his work ever since stumbling upon this interview on The Great Discontent (in case you didn’t know, TGD is my bible). Sadly, I wasn’t able to attend the second day (I got sick).
I look up to Timothy Goodman not because of his skills but because of his character – especially with how personal he approaches things. I’ve started reading a few snippets of 40 Days of Dating (out of curiosity lol) and it got me hooked because I saw real people behind those designer masks people wear. And I’m biased, I like Sharpies. He knows what he’s good at, and he utilizes his strengths well.
Also: you have to check out Memories of a Girl I Never Knew. Get ready for a lot of feelings!
In other irrelevant news, let me just say that BLK531 yogurt is THE BEST THING EVER. I went shopping with my long-time best friends one Sunday and this was our pre-makeup hoarding fuel. Lolz. So much win.
(Yes, you – go to Megamall and try this pronto.)
This is a funny thing I do for work, but I do it for a good excuse – I like bookstores in general. Anyway, I do rounds as often as I can to check on my babies in different branches (babies: my book & postcards). And guess what I saw yesterday…
Huu. So kilig to see the new Candy magazine on the shelves. I feel like I made it on the cover…well, my handwriting. That should do it. Haha. The Candy website also was revamped yesterday. Love the clean layout and new shade of pink!

I also got my copy, yay! I loved that it had a pack of Revlon matte balm lipsticks *signs of maturity*. I haven’t shared this on the blog, but I’ve been recently getting addicted to makeup (watching videos, buying makeup, acting like a girl LOL)…which should be totally valid for a 23 year old *adult* like me. LOL. I’ve been drawn to brown-ish lipsticks recently and I was so stoked to try these lippies (they were awesome btw).
I want to laugh because my watercolor palette is all brown, red, and desaturated hues…just like my lip color preferences. Some things never change. LOL.
I had more days off than usual over the past couple of weeks, which is totally fine by me. Rest is very important, I figured – I’ve been working non-stop for the past few quarters, so I should at least make attempts to slow down as often as I can.
I spent the other day in bed reading Lisa Congdon‘s Art Inc (thanks to my assistant Jean for the copy! Huhu!) and watching Gemma O’Brien’s talk on TYPO (because I missed her GM talk). You can watch it here. A few hours after, I ended up doodling on a full spread of my workbook, aka welcome back, inspiration!
On more eventful things, I was on TV the other night!
I did a quick hand lettering segment at MARS, GMA News TV. Got to meet these quirky hosts Suzi and Camille, and our guests that night were Pancho and Gardo.
The past weeks were also spent working on a pitch with my favorite artists – one of which is Googly Gooeys, aka, a good excuse to visit their home every so often.
Above’s a proper photo with Timothy Riley, Tippy and Pong’s human teddy bear. He is such a cutie. I’m saying things like “cute” and “adorable” and I don’t even like babies – maybe Rye is an exception. Heh. :)
Yesterday was pretty eventful. Apart from braving the Makati traffic (at 2PM, WEW), I got to visit the Canva Manila office (where my mentor works). It doesn’t look like an office AT ALL. It’s probably one of the coolest offices here in Manila (their pantry is huge and IG-worthy, wew). I chanced upon meeting the CEO (from Australia), Mel Perkins, who was super nice and accommodating. She and the Communications Head Zac both saw my work and were impressed.
I just hid in a cave. It was very humbling.
Anyhow, I had a lot of in-your-face moments yesterday after our mentoring session and did a (sort of) life reevaluation. Maybe some goals I set myself were just not needed anymore, and maybe I should just focus with what I already have – and build more from there. At the end of the day, I’m just grateful to be imparted knowledge on from someone I really look up to in terms of art / design. :)
Oh, right, speaking of art. Of course, I’m working on Valentines-themed things this week because it’s the love month. And while I’ve never been in a relationship since birth (hahahaha…next topic please), I’m doing this as a gesture of love to all of you (nux!).
I’ll be giving out signed prints of this (quote from Love Actually) for the first 50 who will have their books/postcards signed on #NBSLoveCalligraphy this Feb 13! :)
(I’m also secretly hoping crush shows up. Nah. I’m such a hopeless romantic. Geez)
Oh, before I forget, here’s my schedule:
11AM: Live mural art
1PM: Book signing with Summit Books
3PM: Lettering demo with Faber Castell
More details about the event here. The event is free, so I hope to see you there :) Let’s be friends! Please don’t be shy to approach me there (I don’t bite, I promise).
In summary: I’m excited / scared / nervous for the rest of my years, tbh. I just want to, as much as possible, accept anything that comes my way and hopefully fight the little demons out of the picture. Here’s to creating more meaningful work and going back to the reason why I started doing this in the first place.
How’s life been so far on your end? :)
