I’ve announced this on my other pages already earlier this week, but this post should give you a clearer idea of what it takes to be part of #TheABCTeam. So do take time to read through everything before you send in your application!
As most of you know, I do (a lot of) work for my personal brand, Abbey Sy / ABC. There’s Type by ABC, Learn by ABC, Made by ABC, and this blog, Le Rêveur. I don’t even know how to quantify my workload – it’s just a lot, in general (if you follow me on Twitter, you know what I’m talking about).
Type by ABC
I do hand lettering work for various personal, freelance & collaborative projects, as well as project planning, management and dealing with client services. My portfolio is currently housed at Behance.
Learn by ABC
I organize and conduct workshops on basic hand lettering for interested students and enthusiasts, as well as manage the logistics and operations for each workshop. More information about Learn by ABC here.
Made by ABC
I create branded merchandise (paper products, mostly) that I sell at art fairs and bazaars in Metro Manila. I manage all operations from conceptualization of designs, accounting to handling and distribution, as well as social media marketing and promotions. View the 2014 Made by ABC collection here.
This blog (+ my previous Tumblr account) is a repository of basically everything work (above mentioned ones), art and travel-related in my life. Apart from managing the website itself, I create the content framework and editorial calendar for each month as well as conceptualization of ideas, photography, art direction, copywriting and editing of each blog post.
If you think about it, I am pretty ambitious to claim that I can do everything on my own. Truth is, I can’t. I’ve recently hired Tricie to help me sort things out (as my manager), and while that in itself has helped me gain a clearer sense of direction towards work, I personally feel that I need another helping hand (i.e. interns!) with my projects.
So why am I getting interns?
(I actually don’t want to call it that way because it sounds so hierarchical. But for formality’s sake, let’s go with interns for the meantime. LOL.)
Apart from the main fact that yes, I need help – I also want to train young girls to realize their own potential as creative individuals. Based on personal experience, it was hard for me because I never had someone to mentor me and see my progress (most of it was done on my own terms, and it was all trial and error) when I was starting out as a blogger/letterer. With that, I personally want to reach out to people who are driven enough to build their goals around their passions and dreams through this internship + mentorship program.

Copy-based Visual Assistant
This position is for the aspiring bloggers and writers out there who constantly write about basically anything that is of their interest. If you’re that girl who loves writing on your diary, blogs regularly or tweets a whole lot of humorous and witty statements on a daily basis, this is for you.
As a copy-based visual assistant, you will be tasked to churn out copy for specific projects and events, as well as helping me in curating and doing copy for blog posts and social media posts. You will be working closely with Tricie (for clearing of work and for mentorship as well) and the art-based visual assistant for majority of your work projects (partners-in-crime!).

I am looking for someone who has a distinct writing style and is able to adapt to various key messaging components (i.e. how to properly promote and advertise via Twitter, Facebook etc). It is mandatory that your proofreading skills are A+, as well as your ability to come up with various copy studies following a central idea or theme.
Scope of Work
Being a part of Team ABC will give you an opportunity to handle project efficiently and professionally. In a nutshell, you guys will be working on Learn by ABC workshops, future events (during the time period of your internship program) and Le Rêveur.
You will be working individually on minor projects (i.e. when I need specific deliverables from one of you) and as a team on major projects that need consolidated outputs (i.e. a comprehensive blog post that involves photography, art direction and copy). I will be 100% hands on with all the activities and work that you will be doing, so don’t worry, you’re in good hands and I won’t leave you hanging.
Think of it this way – I’ll be your “ate” (ha, Ate Abbey now finally makes sense!) aka big sister and I will be supervising your work behavior, as well as oversee your performance throughout this program.
As part of team ABC, you will not be paid monetarily – but we will do our best to provide you with a well-rounded worthwhile experience throughout the duration of the internship + mentorship program. Tricie & I created a mentorship program that will cater to your specific needs as a creative individual. The mentorship program is aimed at helping you in achieving your personal goals – which will be the compensation you will acquire by being a part of team ABC.
The program we created is designed to help you hone your skills specifically in hand lettering (of course), blogging, personal branding, business management and operations (plus digital marketing and such), and a bit of organizing/goal-setting (#OChits – I’ll try to help y’all out on this) through one-on-one mentorship, as well as through the outputs you will be doing (see, told you I’m channeling Ate Abbey here).
Basically: you help me, I help you. That’s how we’ll be coursing through the program – we’re hand in hand in working towards becoming better versions of ourselves.
And if you need school credit for this, I’m willing to sign your certifications. :)
Once you’ve read through everything here and made up your mind (please make sure you do and you get your parents’ approval), please fill up the online application form here: http://bit.ly/theabcteam
Application period: February 28 to March 5, 2015
Internship duration: April to July 2015
We will be screening all the applications and filter out our top picks (which will be announced on March 7). From there, we will be conducting face-to-face interviews with the top applicants and eventually choose the 4 interns we will be hiring.
You have to know that as a creative, my standards are pretty high. I’ve learned this the hard way, which is why when it comes to work efficiency and output, I am pretty much over the top OC with everything that goes on with my ABC work.
If you feel that you are equipped with the skills and qualifications I am looking for, then do give it a go. I wish you all luck and I am looking forward to working with you!
