It all started with a conversation on Facebook.
I randomly messaged Maan of Type Kita, who single-handedly cultivated the type community here in Manila, with exhibits, events, and workshops over the past year. “What if we come up with a type conference in Manila?” was how I vaguely asked her if something like this was possible.
Four months later, here I am co-organizing that crazy idea I thought about one random Saturday morning, and I’m working with some of the most talented young creatives (aka my interns) in making this happen.
It’s funny, because I never volunteered to spearhead big projects or organise events when I was in college. I was usually just part of the creative team, working alongside the heads and seeing them stress out over every single detail. But now, here I am facing challenges and learning the ropes – from plotting out timelines, disseminating tasks, working non-stop, tracking sales, etc…the list goes on.
This notebook is something I’ve been carrying for the longest time now. It’s been part of my luggage during my trips to Europe and Japan, and it’s also been battered and torn apart, but most of all – it’s been filled up with countless ideas, drafts, doodles, wireframes, floor plans, and basically every single thing that’s been rummaging through my head about Type Lab and what I envision it to be.
Anyway, enough about the backstory. I won’t let you in on more details, but wow – Maan and I are on our feet every single day since this started. Not complaining, I’m hopeful the hard work and stress will pay off – and for the record, it’s pretty fun! :)
Sharing some photos c/o Shutter Panda from our shoot last May. Shoot for – wait for it! Coming soon. :)
(I’d like to commend my intern Katsy by the way for creating Type Lab MNL’s A+ branding. Woo!)
We’ll see you there, yes? :)
